It's Easter So Here Comes The Chocolate....

Hi Everyone,
It's Easter weekend and along with all the usual seasonal suspects like traffic jams and bad weather, comes the joy of over-indulging on the chocolate front.
Admit it, young or old, we all love Easter eggs. Little fingers rip open the boxes, peel off the foil wrapping, break chunks of chocolate off and then drop bits all over the carpets (to be trodden in by feet of all sizes later in the day) and smear half sucked mush over the upholstery. Chocolate heaven...not.
So if the worst happens to your carpets this coming weekend, take heed and remember how to remove chocolate from carpets and upholstery.

  1. Act immediately
  2. Remove any solid chocolate with a knife or spoon.
  3. Lightly spray a mist of very mild washing up detergent over the stain.
  4. Blot up (DO NOT RUB) with a clean towel or a kitchen paper
  5. Repeat until as much as possible of the stain is removed and no colouring is being transferred to the towelling
  6. Spray lightly with clean water
  7. Place a folded towel or wad of kitchen paper on the area with a large weight holding it in place and allow any excess water to wick up into it overnight.

So there you have it.... an emergency chocolate stain removal guide. If you still have problems after doing this, give us a call and we'd be glad to help.

Happy Easter.

Does cleaning make your carpets re-soil quickly?

Hello Again,
One of the most commonly held misapprehensions I come across is the old wives tale that you should put off having your carpets cleaned for as long as possible because after being cleaned they get dirty more quickly.
Now the fact is that re-soiling used to be a common problem once, a very long time ago, when technology hadn't heard of, yet alone reached, the old-fashioned world of cleaning. And in some circumstances it can still occur, but in the professional world, things have changed.
Rapid re-soiling happens when a sticky residue is left on the carpet and attracts all the loose dirt, which under normal circumstances would be removed by vacuuming. The residue comes from any one of the following circumstances or a combination of a number of them.

  • The use of inferior cleaning products

  • Poor or unsuitable cleaning techniques

  • DIY cleaning

  • Untrained cleaning technicians

Cleaning chemicals have come a long way over the years and it's quite rare that you come across one that will leave a residue behind. If you're intent on undertaking DIY carpet cleaning, test the cleaning agent you're going to use by pouring a little out on to a saucer and leaving it out overnight. If it evaporates and a handful of crystals are left behind, then you should be alright and you'll avoid any re-soiling problems. If it just becomes sticky goo, then don't use it. That goo is what will coat your carpets once they're dry and will hasten unsightly re-soiling.

If you find that your carpets have re-soiled rapidly after using a professional cleaning service and there is no other explanation, then you should ask them to come back and simply undertake an extraction process with clean water. This will just loosen and remove the sticky dirt and leave the carpet clean and fresh.

So let's put the old wives tale to bed once and for all. Most professional carpet cleaning services will use up to date, residue-free chemicals and, far from hastening re-soiling and thereby shortening the intervals between carpet cleaning visits, this will ensure that their visits are far less frequent.

That's it for today. See you next time.

Do you know a good......?

Hi Everyone,
I'm always looking to create more value for my clients and one of the things I get asked quite often and don't always have a good reply for, is "Do you know or can you recommend a good ...........?" just fill in the blank with the title of any trade you can think of. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, gardeners, cleaners, window cleaners, tilers, builders and so the list goes on.
Now I would dearly love to be able to say to my clients when they ask me these questions,
" Yes, I can recommend xyz unhesitatingly. They are part of my trusted network of trades."
So this where you can help me. If you know someone who has given great service and done a first class job for you or someone you know, please tell me about them and I'll add them to my list.
But please remember, I firmly believe in fantastic client service and if anyone is to get on my list, then they really have to measure up.
I'm looking forward to your replies.
All the best for now.
